Gorüşüyüz veut dire "à bientôt" en turque.

Mercredi, j'ai rencontré pour la dernière fois Serhan dans son joli appartement à Beşiktaş. Pour la dernière leçon, il m'a expliqué brièvement quelques makams: Huseyni, Uşşak, Beyati, Muhayyer, Buselik et Nihavent.   Tous ont une identité propre et suscite différentes émotions. 2 mois n'est vraiment pas assez pour apprendre les makams, le temps avec Serhan était court, mais il m'a offert une excellent introduction de cet univers. L'apprentissage était plus spirituelle/théorique que pratique, beaucoup de discussions et d'écoute. Côté technique, j'ai quand même appris 5 nouvelles pièces variés avec une interprétation et ornementations plus près du style de la musique turque. Presque tous sont avec le makam Hicaz que je connais très bien, mais jouer ces pièces dans le contexte d'Istanbul donne une toute autre sensibilité.

Jeudi, c'est avec grande excitation que j'ai suivi mon premier cour de kaval avec Sinan Çelik. Étant encore qu'une apprentie, nous avons commencé avec des notes longues, j'ai beaucoup pratiqué ces dernières semaines  pour améliorer le son, j'ai été bien encouragé lorsque Sinan m'a fait savoir que j'étais sur la bonne voie. J'ai ensuite appris les doigtés de diverses gammes sur l'instrument: mineur, harmonique ainsi que des dérivés de makams sans komas tels que Sabah, Hicaz et Nikriz et autres. J'ai également commencé Cirit, une pièce Anatolienne qu'il m'a montré sur partition exigeant ma première lecture à vue avec le kaval qui est d'un degré de difficulté différente que d'apprendre à l'oreille, mais pas impossible. J'aurais ma seconde leçon avec lui demain, et peut-être une autre avant mon retour à Montréal.

Et finalement hier, c'est avec beaucoup d'émotions que j'ai pris le bâteau en direction des îles pour ma dernière rencontre avec Richard sur Büyükada.Tout d'abord une discussion sympathique autour du thé, il m'a offert une kavala en roseau qu'il a fait lui même la veille. Ensuite, il a transféré une grande quantité de musique exceptionnelle dans mon ordinateur, tous des bijoux pour l'écoute et l'inspiration. Avec ma caméra, j'ai pris en vidéo Richard interpréter 5 pièces variés pour le kaval à travailler à Montréal de style roumain, bulgare et anatolien, en plus de 2 nouvelles pièces au saxophone Anadolu Koçek, une pièce bulgare/turque ainsi que Plevensko Horo, une pièce bulgare en 9/8. Après m'être promené un peu sur l'île, vu le vieux monastère et  profité de la vue magnifique, je suis retourné chez Richard afin de le saluer. Je l'ai chaudement remercié pour sa grande générosité et son partage, ainsi que d'avoir pris le soin de me référer Serhan et Sinan. C'est avec certitude que l'on va se revoir bientôt qu'on s'est quitté.

Ainsi, mon séjour termine bientôt. Richard et Serhan partent en tournée dès mercredi et ne seront pas revenu avant mon départ. Je les ai naturellement invité à venir faire un tour à Montréal. Pour les derniers jours, je vais éssayer d'aller aux Cappadoces, question de découvir un peu la Turquie en dehors d'Istanbul, à suivre...

Wednesday, i met for the last time Serhan in his nice apartment at Beşiktaş. For the last lesson, he explained me a few makams: Huseyni, Uşşak, Beyati, Muhayyer, Buselik and Nihavent. All have their own identity and raise different feelings. 2 months, is clearly not enough for learning the makams, the time with Serhan was short, bu he offered me am excellent introduction to this universe. The learning was more spiritual/theoretical than application, lot of discussions and listening. Technical side, i learned 5 new pieces with an interpretation and ornementations more close to the turkish music style. Almost all with the Hicaz makam that i know very well, but playing it in a Istanbul context give a new sensibility.

Thursday, this is with excitement that i follow my first kaval lesson with Sinan Çelik. Being just an apprentice, we started with long notes, i practiced a lot theses last weeks for improve my sound, i was encouraged when Sinan let me know that i was on the good way. After, i learn fingerings of various scales on the instrument: minor, harmonic, also some makams without komas like Sabah, Hicaz and Nikriz and others. I also begun an Anatolienne piece that he showed me on music sheet which require my first reading with the kaval, different than learning by ear, but not impossible. I will have my second lesson with him tomorrow and maybe an other one before my return in Montreal.

And finally yesterday, this is with lot of emotions that i took the boat to the islands for my last meeting with Richard on Büyükada. At first, we had a nice talk with a tea and he offer me a kavala that he made himself the day before. After, he transfer in my computer a huge quantity of exceptional music in my computer, amazing for the listening and the inspiration. With my camera, i took videos of Richard playing 5 various kaval pieces to work in Montreal of Romanian, Bulgarian and Anatolian style, as well 2 news pieces on the saxophone, Anadolu Koçek a turkish/Bulgarian piece and Plevensko horo, a bulgare piece in 9/8. After i took a little walk on the island, see the monastery and enjoying the view, i came back at Richard place for sayin him good bye. I warmly thanked him for his generosity and his sharing, also for giving me the contact of Serhan and Sinan. This is with certitude that we will see again soon that i quit  him.

So, my journey finish soon. Richard and Serhan leave for a tour Wednesday and will not come back before my departure. I naturally invited to come to Montreal. For the last days, i will try to go at the Cappadocia, to follow...
